Breast Implants (Augmentation)
This operation is ideal for patients who:
- Want larger breast size
- Want improved breast shape and cleavage
- Have minimal to moderate breast drooping
Breast augmentation is an operation used to enhance the size and shape of the breast mound. There are a number of decisions that a patient will make with Dr. Platt when considering to have a breast augmentation. Typically, an incision will be placed underneath the breast. The type of implant, and placement of the implant above or below the pectoralis muscle will be discussed with each individual patient. Most patients will have same-day surgery, meaning they will be discharged home the same day as the operation. Dr. Platt will discuss the recovery process and establish a follow-up schedule with you.
Breast lift (Mastopexy)
This operation is ideal for patients who:
- Have moderate to severe breast drooping
- Have sufficient breast volume to meet their size goals
- Have been pregnant and/or undergone breast feeding
- Have had substantial weight changes through life, including after substantial weight loss
Mastopexy (breast lift), is an operation re-establishes the ideal size and shape of the breast, nipple and areola using your own breast tissue. In this operation, excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is rearranged to promote the ideal breast shape, and the nipple areola complex is raised to the appropriate place on the breast mound. Patients will decide with Dr. Platt the type of scar that is required to best address their goals. Most patients will have same-day surgery, meaning they will be discharged home the same day as the operation. Dr. Platt will discuss the recovery process and establish a follow-up schedule with you.
Breast lift (Mastopexy) with Augmentation
This operation is ideal for patients who:
- Want to enhance the size and cleavage of their breasts
- Have moderate to severe breast drooping
- Have been pregnant and/or undergone breast feeding
- Have had substantial weight changes through life, including after substantial weight loss
The goal of this combined operation is to re-establish and enhance the size and shape of the breast mound. This operation combines redistributing existing breast tissue and raising the nipple areola complex, with placement of a breast implant. Patients will decide with Dr. Platt the type of scar, type of implant and placement of the implant that is required to best address their goals. Most patients will have same-day surgery, meaning they will be discharged home the same day as the operation. Dr. Platt will discuss the recovery process and establish a follow-up schedule with you. Patients who have this combined surgery may have a surgical drain for a few days.
Breast Reduction
This operation is ideal for patients who:
- Have large and possibly drooping/sagging breasts
- Have symptoms or challenges related to large breast size
- Have excess skin and/or fat along the lateral chest wall and upper outer chest near the armpits
Breast reduction is an operation designed to address: back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, pain between the shoulder blades, difficulty with exercise or to find appropriate clothing, psychological distress associated with disproportionately large breasts, among other symptoms. It is an operation that is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan. The goal of this operation is to reduce the size of the breast mound, but also lift the breast tissue and nipple areola complex back to the natural position. Because breast reduction surgery is limited to addressing the size of the breast only, many patients wish to combine this operation with some liposuction along the lateral chest wall (excess skin and fat to the sides of the breast), and to the anterior axillary fold (excess fat that bulges over your bra or shirt near the armpit). Liposuction is not an insured service. Patients will decide with Dr. Platt the type of scar that is required to best address their goals. Most patients will have same-day surgery, meaning they will be discharged home the same day as the operation. Dr. Platt will discuss the recovery process and establish a follow-up schedule with you.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)
This operation is ideal for:
- Male patients with excess fat or fibrous tissue along the chest and behind the nipple areola complex
Gynecomastia surgery is an operation done for male patients that have excess fat, fibrous fatty tissue and skin along the chest and under the nipples. This is a common condition that is most commonly related to hormone changes within the body during certain parts of a person’s life, or certain types of medications. This operation is typically done with a combination of liposuction and surgical removal of fat and fibrous tissue. Dr. Platt will discuss with every patient whether any investigations are required, and the amount of liposuction and location of scars. Most patients will have same-day surgery, meaning they will be discharged home the same day as the operation. Dr. Platt will discuss the recovery process and establish a follow-up schedule with you.
